    Clinical Overview
Chronic pelvic pain can be defined as any pain in the pelvic region – below the bellybutton and above the hips – which lasts for a period of six months or longer. The pain can be sharp, but more often is a chronic, dull or vague ache in the pelvic area. Although there are various causes of pelvic pain, determining the trigger is sometimes not possible, making it somewhat of a medical mystery. Causes include:

  • Endometriosis. This condition is characterized by uterine tissue growth and change outside of the uterus rather than inside. Click here to learn more.
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
  • Uterine Fibroids
  • Ovarian remnant, or a small piece of the ovary left behind after complete hysterectomy
  • Psychological trauma or distress
