Hi Katherine,By all means, get to your Gyn. There are several tests they may want to do such as an endometrial biopsy, a saline sonohysterogram, a vaginal ultrasound, and/or an ultrasound. I had all the above done, and have simple hyperplasia, where the lining of the uterus builds up too much. All in all, the diagnosis is important, but you want to focus on the 'Why?'. O.K. so why is the body doing what it is doing? I opted for natural things for my heavy bleeding and have had much success! I use dessicated beef liver tablets (from Argentinian beef - where they are not injected with any hormones and such) to keep from becoming anemic again, have organic raspberry smoothies (with organic cherries and bananas) for two weeks before my period for breakfast, take a QUALITY daily multivitamin, and use a natural herbal supplement to slow the flow. Please...visit my site (www.sufferingsisters.com) and look at the page 'Illnesses/Symptoms' for the topic heavy bleeding, and you will find exactly what I have done and you can see my success. Many other women go the natural route with long lasting success and little or no side effects at all. I hope you check it out.Take care,Jill Mary

Hi I'm Amy and I'm 27 yrs old. I've suffered with the same problem for ten years now. I went to my pediatrician when I was younger and now that I'm a woman I've been to three doctors about my excessive bleeding and clots, but it seems like no doctor can help me. I've been poked, pulled, drugged and still no relief. I've been told that its my weight to maybe I'm infertile. Since I want kids, no doctor will prescribe me birth control. I even thought about a hysterectomy! My husband is frustrated with waiting for months to get intimate. It's to the point of depression and not to mention fatigue. I know that I'm not responding with an answer, but I was just hoping that someone could help me too. If you find relief please let me know. mrs_liggins@hotmail.com. Thanks.

Hi Katherine, it is worse NOT to go to the doctor. You could get very anemic with the constant bleeding. This heavy bleeding needs to be corrected...There is no need for you to suffer like this...I am a gyn surgical nurse & I know that there are many options for you to help with your problem. The first thing is to see a gyn Dr. to find out why you are bleeding so heavy. At your age, it probably isn't anything cancerous. It could be just polyps, fibroids, or a thickened endometrial lining. This usually doesn't get better by itself...you need some intervention by a gyn Dr....they are there to help you, not hurt you...it sounds like you have alot of family support, and we are here for you on this website to support you also...if there is anything I can help you with, or if you need a friend to talk to, please feel free to post here, or I can give you my personal email address...don't be afraid to get some help......keep me posted....Kim, RN, BSN, Gyn Team Leader, gyn Surgical Nurse.

Sorry, I can't provide much in information. I'm suffering from the same experience though. If you have insurance, and money to cover the co-pay I'd say you should go to the Doctor. It could be serious..... you'll probably need an ultrasound too, so that they can see if there is anything going on.Good luck, hope someone replies with helpful info.

The period symptoms are so bad that they are putting the relationship with my family at risk. Abnormally high mood swings and temperature fluxes.

I'm 22 years old with no children, and my last 3 periods have been lasting for 2-4 months! The one I'm on now has already lasted 3 weeks. The bleeding is constant, with large (largest was fist-sized) dark blood clots, that sometimes have pink chunks that look like skin in them. I know I should go to a doctor, but I'm too afraid of what one might say.
