Thank you so much for your advice. Four years ago at age 47, after my first ultra sound indicated a midly enlarged uterus due to fibroids, I consulted with an OB/GYN and she recommended a hysterectomy. I left her office in complete disbelief. Again, I was experiencing absolutely no symptoms, I choose the "wait and watch approach". I continue to have annual PAP's and pelvic exams and a utrasound every two years to monitor my fibroids, my Internist does this for me. I do not have an OB/GYN and probably need to find a good one that I can trust.Knowledge, research and advice are powerful tools when making major healthcare decisons, I love this website.I thank all of you who take the time to post!Joriannb

Hi Joriann, If there is no other medical reason for you have treatment for the fibroids, and you have no symptoms, I would not do anything at this time. You are correct in saying that fibroids shrink significantly after menopause. The uterus also shrinks after menopause. Unless you become symptomatic I would do nothing right now. Hi,I am desperate need of advice. I have been watching my fibroid tumors for four years, I have had three ultrasounds. Last week the ultrasound results indicated numerous myometrial masses, most of which could not be visualized well enough to measure. I have three large subserosal masses that have not changed much in two years, the largest measuring 5.5cm x 5.4cm x 5.4 cm (the size of oranges). I have an ovarian cyst 18mm, and a uterus larger than can be measured on ultrasound, I am assuming it's because of the fibroids? I have no symptoms, believe it or not. I know so many of you have terrible symptoms that have posted on this web site! I am 51 years old with no signs of being perimenopausal, but I know it is imminent due to my age. I have read that fibroids will shrink up to 50% after menopause.Do my fibroids need to be treated since I am close to menopause. Has anyone expierenced a similar dilemma. I am not anxious to put myself through painful treatment's, hormone thearpy or surgery without symptoms. Is there any harm in leaving well enough alone. I am scheduled to consult with two GYN's next week but would like other opinion's/experiences if possible.Any advice is welcome!
